I like the synths in this

But I reckon to make it really powerful dubstep, you'd need some intense punchy drum samples. I'd recommend the vengeance drum sample packs. This is a fucking sweet song though, nice work.

Kdrishe responds:

I just got Reason Drum Kits 2.0, but after making this song, so I haven't got a chance to use them yet. I will definitely check that out, though. I'm always looking to gain that little extra punch. Thanks!

I like

Okay, I thought, great intro, sweet piano melodies, punchy drum sounds, nice leads, clear mixing.

The main thing I think you should work on more for this song is that wobble bass. I'd personally say leave out the automation/lfo/whatever is is controlling the filter, and just leave the bass as a dirty "reese" sound. Then, to keep it interesting I'd say put over some really haunting reverbed vocal samples in the odd place. You don't need a wobble bass for it to be dubstep, and I love the parts without the wobble, but in my opinion that wobble is a bit too "cheesy dubstep" sound.

That's all just my opinion though, and it was worth a download. Stay proud of it- the people you've showed are right to love it, I'm just giving a suggestion for what to do next.

Reali-tGlitch responds:

I know that it doesn't need wobble (and a decent number of mine don't), but to my ears it just worked for a little variation. We all have different tastes, and this one suited mine just fine. Thanks for the suggestions, though. I might use that backverb/reverb idea.

Nice

I think it's proven that sentient life lives pretty much nowhere near earth. Apparently it's almost definite that life in some form does exist somewhere, but the chances that we'll ever come into contact with them are next to nothing. But it's definitely good to think about the possibility of it. . .

Anyway, this song is pretty beautiful- sounds like something out of "cafe del mar"- have they influenced you at all? I now feel the need to make extremely chilled music. Haha, the guitar and piano work really nicely together. Did you record yourself really playing guitar? It sounds pretty organic.

10/10 5/5, nice work.

KKSlider60 responds:

The possibility of extraterrestrial sentient life is thrilling but unfortunately out of our reach... because of the immense distance between them and our primitive technology. Imagining such thing is surely a great opportunity for further inspiration.

Never heard of "cafe del mar" by the way, but I'll listen to it now.
Everything you hear is completely synthesized, and I rarely record something - whether it's my voice or me "playing". XD
Thank you for the compliments and review ^^

Where is the bass?

I did enjoy the track, that intro drum beat was definitely interesting, something you don't hear in every dubstep song. The composition in general, with the song returning to back to that intro riff every now and then was good- returning to the familiar section works well.

What I think the track needs is a slightly longer intro before that noise-build up, also I'd recommend keeping a kick or high-hat going as this build-up happens, because this would keep the rhythm going, and make it easier to dance to the drop. Often producers would put a kick steadily doubling its timing with a highpass taking out more and more of the low frequencies over this part.

One other problem I have is with the bass sound after the drop. It seems to only contain the high-end. If you layer your current wobble with a more midsy wobble, going at the same time, and a sub bass (which you'd probably need to sidechain compress with the kick) then it'd sound ear-raping as. Finally, after the drop simplify the drums and turn them up- the crazy drums work in the intro, but not so much the more intense parts. And the synth sound at the start sounds sort of like a fruity-loops-esque preset, you should mess with it a bit more, perhaps layering it too.

That's all the criticism I have to give, I hope it was relatively constructive, haha. Good luck with future dub to the step.

wulfsok responds:

Much obliged. I've worked on my production routine a bit since this track (in reality this was my second ever track). A fill during the drop would work; my idea of a drop is like a crescendo to a break-down, usually i separate the drums from the different verses. I like your idea of keeping my off-beat drums to the intro; i really liked the sequence i came up with and whored it a little bit, need something with a heavier rhythm for the heavier parts.

That wasn't an FL preset, but close. Sylenth1, with modifications. I've since moved on to MASSiVE =DD now i'm racking my brain as to producing dublines with variating wubs without having to use pitch gates, and since automation is impossible under my current method, with some equipment I can start automating with MIDI, then the quality should go up substantially. Thanks for the review though very much appreciate it.

HEY

I know you wanted it to be drum and bass, BUT MAKE IT DROP INTO DUBSTEP.

imagine this, okay- you've got your build up going on- it's coming up- it's coming up then silence at the end, and everyone's like "oh yeah another dum and bass song" but wait . . . . <drum fill> to RUTHLESSNESSSSS!!!

TranceCrafter responds:

lol it's funny you'd say that cause that's exactly what I intend on doing xD

I've already started on the dubstep bit but still working on the transition into it from the dnb part. more coming soon ;D

Sounds like Borgore!

Haha, this sounds a lot like borgore, where's the dirty rapping? :P

This song is nice- well mixed, and the wobbles are nice. It's just missing one thing- BASSSSSS! You've got the higher elements of the dubstep wobbles- but there sort of needs to be a sub-bass underneath these main parts. Try adding in a synth made of a single sine wave, have it play the main bass melody on a really low frequency- e.g. you can't hear it without decent speakers, and sidechain it with the kick drum. If you can get a sub fitting into your mix nicely, this song will be fully ear-raping.

Preyfour responds:

Hey man, thanks for the feedback. I do actually have a sub in the mix, but due to me currently running through shitty speakers I didn't know if it was shining through enough. Cheers for the advice, I'll take it into account.

It's not bad

I like, but I'm afraid I had to give you a four (breaking your perfect 5 record :P)

The intro was really cool, the stringy/piano sound and melody was really beautiful, but I think it needed to have gained more energy as it dropped into the main part of the song, maybe try having the drums quieter/high-passed until the mid section begins.

I like the the crazy melody lines in the central section, and the mix is definitely clean and clear, but the wobble sound is too high in my opinion, maybe take it down an octave to give more room for the high synths and beef it up a bit. Also remember to leave some space, even in the most high energy parts of the song (music is made by the gaps between the notes, as they say). Finally I reckon change up the drum beat a bit, to make it real interesting.

All in all though, this song has a lot of potential, well structured, well mixed, and original- it's not just a boring generic dubstep song.
Nice work!

Buztid responds:

thank you :)
im always open to constructive criticism. Thanks for listening to it anyways and ill take what you said into account, as i always do. :)

That's awesome

Really nice drum sounds, and the way the sine bass goes underneath them is really sweet- good volume on the bass. It's sort of like really mellow dubstep, only a 9 because it doesn't have the vocals yet- it'll be perfect when they're in there.

Cheers

Frazmaster responds:

hopefully! :D
thanks for the comment

Nice Work!

Your drum sounds are gangsta as! This is sweet, there's a good variety of instruments, and it works well.

YouriX responds:

Thanks man i tried to make it robotic and still Samurai like. Also this song does sound gangsta, you could just feel that someone might just start rapping through this song. XD

cool

Have you heard of the animal collective? This could so be turned into their style of music with singing over it haha.

lilmcj22 responds:

Haha yea..
Thnks for the review!

Evening chaps. These are my musics. I don't know what kind of music to make so I just make a lot.
